Microsoft today announced that it is releasing the source code for Windows Server 2003 SP1 to licensees of the WSPP. With this move, Microsoft is upping the ante to eliminate the issue of documentation, which it clearly believes is a minor irritant in the larger scheme of things - and it has nothing to do with the threat of 2 million Euro per day fines. The core issues of licensing of its intellectual property, particularly by the open source community, remain and will be the subject of continuing fervant debate with the E.C., the Court of First Instance and more broadly. continue
