I often find myself needing to verify whether an Oracle database is working. Sometimes a process running on one server extracts data from a database on another server and, if the process fails, testing the connection to the database is a good starting point from which to determine what went wrong. I don't have a lot of Oracle tricks up my sleeve, but a small amount of information about accessing Oracle goes a long way when troubleshooting potential problems. continue
